The Biomechanics4Rehab project has successfully ended an online course adressed to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Doctors.

This initiative, funded by the European Commission under the Lifelong Learning Programme [2013-1-TR1-LEO05-47549], has developed the contents and implemented this online course.

Biomechanics4Rehab course objective is to present training contents in biomechanical assessment adapted to the specific training requirements of medical rehabilitation doctors in Europe.

Nowadays biomechanical measurement techniques in the medical field are commonly used. These methodologies are mainly focused on the functional and bodily harm assessment. These tools have advantages from traditional tools, mainly in terms of accuracy and reliability of the measurement. However, in general, these techniques are mainly used in clinical studies but have great potential for use in clinical practice as a: aid to diagnosis, progress monitoring of patients, guidance for further rehabilitation therapy depending on the capabilities affected, assessment of limitations, evaluation of patient cooperation, etc.

The rehabilitation physician's academic background has a clear clinical focus, so they have a lack of knowledge in the area of biomechanical assessment, which could be very useful in their job performance. This situation is well known by professional associations at national and European level, who believe in the importance of providing their associates with additional training to complement their professional skills.

The Instituto de Biomecánica (Biomechanics Institute -IBV) is  partners of the consortium were also take part in Mustafa Kemal Üniversitesi (MKÜ –coordinator) – Hitit Üniversitesi (HITIT), Dipartamento di Bioengegneria – Politecnico de Milano (POLIMI), European Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ESPRM) and Sociedad Española y Medicina Física (SERMEF).
