Dragan Primorac, President of the Croatian Society for Personalised Medicine and former Minister of Science, Education and Sports of Croatia participated in the event.

On March 30th a workshop on Personalised Medicine programmes was held in the frame of Back-Up Project, in which the Back-UP Platform and some of its components were presented, with a special focus on the usage of glycans as biomarkers for inflammation.

The workshop was organized by Gordon Lauc from GENOS Croatia, who had an overview on glycan biomarkers of inflammation. According to Mr. Lauc “the latest advances in this field may be fundamental against COVID, so as biomarkers of biological age work as predictors of COVID-19 disease severity”.

Prof. Primorac presented the Croatian St. Catharine’s Hospital and its personalised medicine programmes,

Helios de Rosario Martínez put the focus on the integrated BackUP system for management of low-back pain while Milton Hoz de Vila presented the new BackUP App, a free tool that provides personalised and automated care plans for patients during musculoskeletal consultations.

Back-UP is a platform with software tools for patients, clinicians and researchers, to improve the management of nonspecific neck and low back pain. Back-UP uses statistical models and Artificial Intelligence on data from multiple dimensions (biological, biomechanical, psychological, social, and occupational), to make prognostics of pain, disability and work outcomes that support the stratification of patients and shared decision making.
