MADE IN ME (www.madeinmeshoes.com) is a company dedicated to the sale of footwear designed by the actual client, in accordance with their tastes and preferences. Instituto de Biomecánica (IBV) has developed for this company a new size allocator for women’s shoes based on the anthropometry of the female population of Spain. The allocator has also been customized for the different models of footwear that the company sells.

 

 

El Instituto de Biomecánica (IBV) ha desarrollado una aplicación móvil innovadora que permite capturar la forma del pie en 3D empleando únicamente tres fotos tomadas desde cualquier smartphone, haciendo posible la obtención de las dimensiones del pie en cualquier lugar. Esta tecnología supera las barreras para la difusión a gran escala de la digitalización de los pies y su uso en el comercio electrónico para la selección de tallas y para realizar pruebas virtuales del calzado, así como para nuevos modelos empresariales online como la personalización en masa de calzado.

 

Instituto de Biomecánica (IBV) has developed a cutting-edge app which allows to capture the 3D shape of the foot with only three pictures taken from any smartphone, making possible to obtain the dimensions of the foot at any place. This technology overcomes the barriers for the massive spreading of the digitisation of feet and its use in e-Commerce for size selection and virtual try-on of footwear as well as for new online business models as footwear mass customization.

 

 

Using Digital Human Models in automotive sector is very popular, especially for impact simulation or to determine reaches and spaces for the driver and the passengers.           
Instituto de Biomecánica (IBV) has come up with the initial approach to develope three dimensional digital human models in the driving posture in the framework of a larger project sponsored by the JARI laboratory (Japanese Automotive Research Institute) of Japan, whose objective is to carry out research into the mechanics of whiplash in women, by developing, validating, and using finite element models (FEM) of the human body.                
The main contribution of the project has been the development of a methodology to obtain complete and simplified meshes of the human body in the driving posture. It has also been developed a procedure to scan people in the driving posture using a scanner that is specifically configured for the standing posture. The methodology developed opens up a new very promising way to develop extremely lifelike virtual mannequins that represent population groups that have common morphological characteristics.
